ABOUT LYNX WOODWORKING

Lynx Woodworking is a small woodshop located in Central CT. We create handmade wood products ranging from cutting boards to furniture. Our passion for woodworking drives us to work closely with our clients to bring their ideas to life. We take pride in our craftsmanship and attention to detail, ensuring that each piece is a work of art. At Lynx Woodworking, we aim to stand out by delivering high-quality, custom wood products that exceed our clients' expectations.

Lynx Woodworking began around the start of Covid 19.  Like many other people, covid shut down John's workplace and he was stuck home during a time of uncertainty with not very much to do.  Vanessa asked him what he thought about getting chickens and a chicken coop became the first wood working project.  After buying some basic tools and a little practice, the shop quickly began to improve.  Currently we have most common power tools for making wood products.

Why the name Lynx Woodworking?  John is an avid and accomplished backpacker as has completed the Triple Crown of through hiking.  This includes the 2,200-mile Appalachian Trail, the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail, and the nearly 3,000-mile Continental Divide Trail.  It is common on these through hikes to have a "Trail Name."  A trail name is a nickname that most other through hikers use for each other.  John's trail name has been Lynx for over 10 years now and it seemed a fitting name to use for the wood shop to blend it and his backpacking passion together.

Our Wood Shop

We are fortunate to have an outbuilding on our property that we have turned into a capable wood working shop.  It contains the equipment that is needed to mill wood to its final shape and thickness.  These tools include a jointer, planer, band saw, and table saw.  We also have a CnC machine with laser cutting and etching capabilities.  This versatile tool allows us to add custom elements to any work piece.  John built his own dust collection system, and it is a bit of a Frankenstein monster.  The shop also includes other common tools such as a router table, miter saw, drum sander, drill press, oscillating spindle sander, belt and disc sander, and scroll saw.

About John

John has been a woodworker for about 5 years now and his skills are constantly expanding.  He grew up in the tiny town of East Hartland in Northern Connecticut.  He has a background working in the Outdoor Industry, having been employed at Eastern Mountain Sports for around 8 years before working for REI for about 2 years.  He has also worked for the CT Wilderness School as lead of their logistics team, REI's Rock-Climbing School, and Ragged Mountain Guides.  Most recently, however, he has shifted focus a bit and attended a furniture making class at Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking. He continues to take on new and challenging projects and looks forward to growing Lynx Woodworking. As mentioned above, long distance backpacking is a big passion of his and he is always looking toward the horizon for the next long trip.

About Vanessa

Vanessa works fulltime in the medical field but grew up around her dad's carpentry shop in Ellington, CT and has a passion for the arts as well as the sciences. She also enjoys the outdoors and while the longest trail she's hiked is the 270 mi Long Trail in VT, she hopes "one of The Big Three" is in her future. John generates the majority of the actual products in the wood shop, but Vanessa creates a lot of the concept work. Her patience and eye for detail also come into play with much of the finishing work. She is excited to be a part of all the unique projects Lynx Woodworking clients will envision.
